Piers Gough CBE - CZWG Architects

Piers Gough master-planned Brewery Square and, with Sanjiv Gohil, a partner in the practice, they have designed 23 new buildings in the scheme including the new Dorchester South Station.

Piers is a Commissioner of CABE; the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, and has been President of the Architectural Association, and a Commissioner of English Heritage and on the Advisory Committee. Appointed CBE in the 1998 Queen’s Birthday Honours List he was elected a Royal Academician in 2002.

About the Brewery Square scheme he said “This is a fantastic opportunity to link the town and railway station through a sequence of brilliant spaces, including the Brewery Square itself. The route is flanked by a lively array of shops, restaurants, Hotel, Arts Centre, with residential apartments above housed in an eclectic mix of listed buildings and exciting new architecture, like the very best kind of town centre”.

Sir Terence Conran - Conran & Partners

Sir Terence Conran’s internationally acclaimed architectural practice has been responsible for the conversion design of the listed buildings at Brewery Square; The Eldridge Pope Building, The Bonded Stores, Dorchester Brewery Hotel, including the Dorchester Spa, and The Maltings Arts Theatre. The practice has also designed two new buildings, The Brewhouse Apartments and Maltings Mews as well as all the hard landscaping, including the fountain and the world’s first puffing clock chimney!

His design for the solar assisted street lamp for Brewery Square was inspired by the Arum Lily.

Richard Eckford

Richard Eckford trained as a graphic designer but has gone on to become a renowned furniture designer with commissions including the Eden Project in Cornwall. His use of recycled timber has resulted in innovative designs for Brewery Square, in particular the bollards made from hardwood railway sleepers.
